Portrait of Calypso Dionis, french film and TV director

Born in 1996 and raised in Paris, Calypso earned her bachelor's in film and television at La Sorbonne University in 2016.

How did you start filmmaking?

I grew up surrounded by music and started playing the violin, then drums, from the age of four. At five, I discovered photography and quickly became passionate about capturing moments—whether on land or underwater—during my family vacations.

What's your educational background?

When I was eleven, I got my first computer and began learning video editing on my own. This creative spark led me to study film directing at ESRA, a film school in Paris, and later to pursue a cinema and television program at Sorbonne University Paris III.

Willing to improve my English, I spent a year in Australia dedicated to language study. I then moved to Canada, where I spent two years working on film sets in Vancouver, and as a photo retoucher specializing in actor headshots.

What services do you provide?

Today, I live in Switzerland and work as an independent filmmaker. My main focus is directing commercials, documentaries and corporate films. From script development to editing, I can manage every step of the production process . Directing and editing are my strongest skills, and I am available to hire as both director and editor.

Do you have any creative projects outside of filmmaking?

When I'm not on set, I teach drums to children—including those with learning differences.

Since 2018, I have been an active member of the Kino filmmaking movement, directing around 20 short films within strict time constraints (48 to 72 hours). In my free time, I also compose rap music under the name Calypop—a personal project where I explore rhythm, writing, and self-expression.

What's next for you?

My goal is to direct more and more fiction films.
